ASM Mentoring Mondays

MM for site

Winner of the 2000 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring Program (PAESMEM), ASM is building on its acclaim to offer the latest in mentor development. ASM-LINK Mentoring Mondays is the new tiered mentor training program. It blends virtual, interactive and onsite training to give research investigators and educators tools to become better mentors. Over the course of the program, participants will learn more about effective mentoring, establishing beneficial mentoring relationships, and implementing novel mentoring strategies to improve research programs.

Program design

Mentoring Mondays is a stepwise progressive course, where each level provides more opportunity for in-depth interaction and knowledge building. While each tier in the program independently provides skills and strategies to become better mentors, the course builds upon itself to provide all-encompassing, structured mentor training. Below, you will find a description for each level of the series. Participants can register for one or all components of the program. Participants who complete the full series will be acknowleged as ASM Science Mentoring Fellows.

Level 3: Interactive virtual workshops

Facilitated by KnowInnovation, noted IDEA Lab facilitators, the virtual workshops will focus heavily on novel strategies and thinking creatively about mentoring challenges. The topics of these workshops will be determined by you, the community, to address your specific mentoring needs.

Level 4: ABRCMS Mentoring Strategies Workshop

At the culmination of the virtual series, a few selected participants who desire advanced mentoring partnerships will be invited to a two-day facilitated face-to-face workshop held in conjunction with the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS). Here, interdisciplinary mentoring teams will solidify and sustain partnerships initiated through our virtual interactions. They should also collaborate to develop a joint proposal exploring new mentoring strategies and designing new models to broaden participation in STEM education and the scientific workforce.
